Jeff Baker, MATS, MBA As a family man, I know the impact of stories – from those of my parents and extended family – and the stories I’ve experienced and lived out in different countries, which in turn have impacted my children and grandchildren. Thirty years ago I grasped for the first time the significant role a person’s legacy has within a family, community, and organization. At that time, I was in great need of the wisdom from older colleagues when I, my wife, and two young daughters were navigating life in Ethiopia. Not long after I began to actively promote the “preserving of memories” through recording, documenting, and story-telling.
I believe that we are part of a larger story which contributes to who we are as individuals. That story resides in the influence of family, friends, culture and more. It is the inheritance which begins to pour into us at the moment of birth. While we cannot choose our inheritance, we can shape the legacy which flows out from us to our children and descendants. By documenting our life stories and those of our ancestors we provide greater meaning and insight about the larger story our children and grandchildren inherited. Frankly, I am passionate about enabling people to document their life stories and family history. Whether I am assisting on a small scale in providing organizational tools or on a larger scale with creating a legacy book, I want to make your dream come true by giving family members an heirloom record. |
